Base Camp Pizza Company, Heavenly Village, South Lake Tahoe, Ca

I decided to visit Heavenly Village, a beautiful development, which has world class shopping and dining. It surrounds the Heavenly Gondola which skiers take every winter up the mountain for some of the most desired skiing in the Lake Tahoe basin. I came across this restaurant where people were coming in and out as it was the busiest place in the village. I had to see what it was all about. The name of the restaurant is Base Camp Pizza Co.  This restaurant opened 3 years ago. It has a very family friendly atmosphere, a welcoming staff and wonderful customer service. It just so happened that the Managing Partner, Ted Kennedy was here today! Ted is the nicest guy who has great pride in not only the restaurant, but all of his employee’s also. His motto is: “hire right, train right and treat right.” Ted is from the corporate world, with over 12 years of marketing experience. He and his partners also own other sister pizza restaurants; Fireside Pizza in Squaw Valley, Olympic Village and Rubicon Pizza in NorthStar Village, next to the ice skating rink in Truckee, Ca., which are all very successful.

Base Camp pizza is ranked #2 out of  10 best restaurants in South Lake Tahoe by trip advisor! I must admit, after sampling the calamari, spicy chicken wings, Base Camp pizza and Thai curry chicen pizza, I see why so many people come to this restaurant. Pastas are freshly made every day. They also have a bar where you can get such drinks like the one I had, made with hazelnut expresso vodka and godiva chocolate liquer. Happy hour is served daily from 2p.m. – 6p.m. with live music – check out the schedule for October. There’s a wonderful outdoor sitting area, with heated lamps to enjoy the music under the stars; and it’s free!! Local bands or trios from the area come to perform as you have a warm after dinner drink and get cozy. The Gondola is right at the base of the Base Camp Pizza Company. Literally you can take the chair up, do some skiing and get a warm meal or drink apres ski!! During the summer, it is their busiest time of the year with all of the South Lake Tahoe events that go on from Memorial Day through September.
