Circus Vargas – presents ‘Iluminous” – A New Spectacular that Glows in the Dark!!

Circus Vargas is fun for the whole family!!

The kid in me came alive when I heard the Circus was coming to town! Immediately I researched showtimes and directions in my area for ‘Americas Big Top Circus’! I was able to secure tickets for a 1:00p.m. show, held in the Orange County Great Park, Irvine, California.

As I approached the parking lot, I was amazed at the enormous, colorful big top tent in front of me and couldn’t wait to see what was inside. At the entrance of the tent and ticket booth, there are vivid lights, colors and different designs that I remember as a child. I was warmly greeted, like most people were, by one of the owners Katya Quiroga-Tabares. As I wandered in slowly, I noticed a face painting booth and a little girl getting her face painted. To my left, was a snack bar of all kinds of great circus food and popcorn. On the other side of the entrance, there were toys and souvenirs, and all sorts of gismos and gadgets that had lights on them as you swung them or shook them. There was even a drink cup with lights swirling around the cup. The one thing I didn’t see at this Circus, were the animals. Circus Vargas does not use animals in their particular circus.

Then it struck me. This particular Circus Vargas show is called, “Iluminous”; thus all of the lights I was about to see in the following show. On my way to my seat, I had time to talk to and interview with Nelson and Katya Quiroga-Tabares, of Tabares Entertainment. Nelson Quiroga, the President and CEO, explained that there are 3 generations of family members, currently working in the “Iluminous” show. He and his family have been a part of the circus for many years. The same warmth that eminates from Nelson and his wife Katya, is truly felt as you interact and gaze upon the aerialists, acrobats, and trapeze artists, as their world becomes yours.

The theme of the show, ‘The Big Disconnect”, was expressed so beautifully in the opening skit as it portrayed the way our American life has evolved to a non-social, technological society. In other words, everyone is on their phones and devices and has no time to interact.

Some of the highlights of the show featured, Yeromenko, a high octane, Ukrainian gymnastic team who make dazzling leaps and spins from three horizontal bars 20 feet from the ground. The Skating Torreblancas, a Chilean duo of roller skating artists where the brother propels in a circle while whipping his sister through the air in a series of life-threatening lifts, poses and swings including one heart in your throat moment then they are chained neck to neck while spinning on a 6 foot platform. Known as the Justin Bieber of the circus world, “21 year old Patrick Marinelli, gained a rabid fan base after showing off his magic on ‘America’s Got Talent.” The fifth generation circus artist dons a light up suit to join the guys on the electrifying Trampoline Wall. The girl power Osmani Trio combines dance and contortions in an amazing display of strength and grace. Wearing a Tron-like, light up costume, Vova whirls light up objects such as a 4 foot cube through the dark. A pair of glow-in-the-dark motorcycle daredevils zoom around in a 16 foot Globe of Danger, while avoiding a courageous beauty who stands in the center. Direct from a royal command performance for Prince Albert of Monaco, the trapeze artists known as the Flying Tabares, sporting phosphorescent gear fly with the speed and beauty of fireworks through a darkened tent.  Steve Caveagna, is a very multi-talented clown!! Besides the fact that he can speak 4+ languages, he is also one of 4 people that has mastered the Chinese yo-yos; this will blow your mind! Plus, he knows how to get the crowd to laugh!! His brother, Jones, takes the saxophone to incredible heights, as they instigate pandemonium with each other.

This is fun for all ages and there’s really not a bad seat in the house! Bring your children to participate in the pre-show children activities on stage.
