On my list of food, and all of you know, I love to eat italian food. It’s on my Top 3 list. As we pull in to the Resort, I see the streets are closed and vendor tents and canopies decorate the streets. If it wasn’t for having to take my luggage to my room, I would have grabbed some lasagna right off the bat, as I could smell it cooking.
Let me brief our readers at this point, about what you would be attending. For the 34th year, the Eldorado has brought the sights, sounds and flavors of Italy to downtown Reno during the Eldorado Great Italian Festival. The festival, held each year during Columbus Day weekend, is a celebration of Italian culture and traditions. Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, the Eldorado Great Italian Festival transforms downtown Reno into Little Italy with a grape stomp, sauce cookers competition, wine walk, an Italian farmers market, children’s gelato-eating contest, Italian Buffet and incredible free, live entertainment all weekend long.
The music lineup includes festival favorites such as Ray Massa’s Eurorhythms, Moreno Fruzzetti, Primo Basso and direct from Italy Capuano n’T Rock. Joining the festival this year are the cast from “Saltoriya” performing acts from the show and Aaron Caruso.
There are plenty of offerings street side as well — traditional Italian fare including housemade pastas, deep-fried ravioli, sausage sandwiches, garlic bread, New York steak flatbread, chicken parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs and more. Festival highlights: Pasta bowls for sauce tasting will be sold for $3 at the pasta booth on the corner of 4th and Virginia streets starting at noon daily. Don’t wait, they go fast! Grape stomping is fun, free and open to the public Saturday starting at from. Members of the media, politicians and local celebrities stomp Sunday starting at 11 a.m. The grape stomping stage is located on the train trench plaza on the south side of the Eldorado.
That evening, I attended the theatrical cirque sensation, “Saltoriya” and what a sensation it was! I truly have never seen such an exciting show as this that keeps you entranced as every performer is ‘one of a kind’, and their acrobatic talent is off the charts; something you will probably never witness in your lifetime, but at this show. The show is going on now through November 15 at the El Dorado Theatre inside the Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno!
“Saltoriya” is a new show comprising awe-inspiring internationally acclaimed performers, acrobats, daredevil stunts and comedy in an exhilarating, uplifting experience. The show combines feats of athleticism, comedy, original music and choreography to create an awe-inspiring production. It celebrates magnificent physical movements of world-class performers with universal and timeless appeal. Cirque-style productions bring amazing elements of the traditional circus to another level of excitement and aesthetics.
“Saltoriya” features a cast of incredibly talented American and European performers including acrobats, clowns, jugglers and dancers. The audience will see comedians, unicycle masters, an unsupported ladder balancing act, contortion-hand balancing, a hula-hoop act and a daring motorcycle globe act.
“The show brings a lighthearted high-energy performance showcasing the best artistic disciplines that the contemporary circus can offer,” said Misha Matorin, the show’s producer.
Matorin, producer of many cirque-style spectaculars, pushes the envelope to perform entertainment of the highest caliber in the perfect melding of circus and theater, brought to life by an original musical score and surrealistic characters. Matorin, who used to perform his aerial cube act with Cirque du Soleil, created his own production company, DreamCast Entertainment.

IPA Magazine will be back to the Eldorado Resort Casino and for their upcoming show for the holidays, ‘Ebenezer’. The Eldorado Resort Casino is ringing in the holiday season with “Ebenezer A Musical Christmas Carol” showing November 24 through Dececember 27 at the Eldorado Theatre. The musical Christmas carol “Ebenezer” is based on Charles Dickens’ classic holiday masterpiece, “A Christmas Carol.” Ebenezer Scrooge is an unhappy, cruel man and, much to his dismay, he is visited by four ghosts who take him through a musical journey of his life on Christmas Eve. He travels to his past, comes face-to-face with the present and is horrified by what his future could hold. Classicists will not be disappointed in the purity of the script, and those who love music will be satisfied and thrilled.
“Ebenezer” is warm and rich in its telling of this story. It is touching and scary when it needs to be, and has a spiritual lifting of one’s soul when the lessons of love and belief are revealed. “Ebenezer” is great for adults and families alike, and is filled with humor, songs and a classic story.
