Splash Cafe, Pismo Beach, Ca.

As you’re walking down the main street of Pismo Beach, Pomeroy Ave., you come across this fun, bright, little cafe, called, ‘Splash Cafe.’ Splash Cafe started in 1989. Many of the employees have been there for years, including the General Manager, Gina, who has been there 22 years. We had a wonderful conversation with Gina on the history of the cafe. Celebrities such as Drew Barrymore, Tom Green, Kurt Russell and Steve Perry have definitely been there. Of course, Huell Howser walked in one day with his camera crew and said, ‘let’s shoot a clip on this great place’!! Splash Cafe got it’s name from the artist Lin Mercer, who simply splashed every wall in the cafe with multiple colors of paint including the outside of the building . Thus the name, ‘Splash’ evolved.

It’s known for its ‘world famous’ clam chowder. They sell more than 30,000 gallons each year of the clam chowder. By the way, the clam chowder in a bowl was only $6.95. My photographer had the ‘salmon tacos’ for $7.95. Two huge pieces of salmon with onions and avocado. The fish and chips are $7.95, 3 pieces of fish.  They participate in the annual ‘Clam Festival which was being held October 18-20, 2013. Many of the restaurants participate in this event. People from the Central Valley, come to visit as well as from all around the world.

You can call the restaurant and order their fresh frozen clam chowder and have it delivered to you. It is shipped via USPS all over the United States.  The restaurant is open at 8am daily. It is a fun place to dine. There are days when you might see over 100 people lined up to order.

If you go to Pismo Beach, you have got to pay a visit to the Splash Cafe. Their menu is extensive and reasonable. Please go to their websit at www.Splashcafe.com or call (805) 773-4653.
