Article by Linda Lee, Journalist and Assistant Editor – IPA Magazine Travel

What a great find for all of you golf enthusiasts!!!

This 9 hole, public golf course is located on the pristine shores of Lake Tahoe. A family owned business and Lake Tahoe tradition since 1978. In 1924, Old Brockway was the only 9 hole golf course in Lake Tahoe.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lane, the Owner and his son Collin. There are so many stories to tell of celebrities who consistently played at this golf course, to name a few; ‘ The Rat Pack- Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and in 1934-35, Bing Crosby held the 1st, Bing Crosby golf tournament. Lane is so interesting in sharing the history about the Old Brockway. I wish I had more time as I literally couldn’t write fast enough!!

Old Brockway Golf Course has attracted many ‘Millenials’ who are typically on a time crunch and don’t want to play the big 18 hole golf courses. Also, there is a full service, full length driving range on the west side of the 9th behind Safeway.

It’s not a country club, but has a warm, welcoming feel and you’ll love the casual atmosphere with the beauty of the Jeffrey pine trees as you golf. The course is easily accessible from the Bay area and Southern California. Many visitors come from all over the United States and Europe as the ‘buzz’ is out that this is the place to come!! There are 2 teaching professionals as part of the quality staff.

Additionally, as an added feature, there is an American Bistro Bar and Grill, called ’Spindleshanks’, located in the same building. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner with ‘happy hour’ on Tuesday. The food is generous and delicious and the atmosphere is fantastic!!
