Spindleshanks restaurant- Lake Tahoe’s Best Food and Wine Pairing, Kings Beach, Ca
Article by Linda Lee, Journalist and Assistant Editor, IPA Magazine Travel

When searching the best restaurants in Lake Tahoe, Spindleshanks was at the top of the list. It happens to be next to Old Brockway Golf Course, which has been a long time favorite of mine, since I was a kid.
I contacted Steve Marks, who operates the restaurant and has many different roles and wears a lot of hats as the Chef, Manager, Host, and visionary. I was particularly interested in “how he came up with the name, Spindleshanks? Steve mentioned that his son had such long legs, he decided to name the restaurant after his son. Steve was very busy with guests and so he had Maribel, a very friendly waitress answer many questions I had.
When you think of a restaurant or grill at a golf course, you imagine a casual dining atmosphere without much ambiance. Steve Marks has made Spindleshanks a trendy, updated, charming restaurant. About 13 years ago, he added the bar and the side deck of the main restaurant and the other a quaint addition he added 2 years ago, which to me is your private area to enjoy the delicious food and good conversation.

Steve is the creator of the menu items which are truly 5 star. I asked for the most popular lunch items. Ahi Poke Tostada’s– sushi ahi, cucumber, red and green onions, jalapeno, cilantro, avocado and sesame seeds on a bed of fresh greens, Western Style burger– cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings and barbeque sauce, and for ‘vegetarians’, Vegan Wrap – flat bread filled with hummuas, cous cous, arugula, cabbage, avocado, red onions and tomato in a Meyer lemon poppyseed vinaigrette. All were absolutely delicious. Steve believes in serving full and large portions.

There is so much detail and perfection in every entree. I wasn’t able to try the dinner items as I had other media obligations, however I’ve provided a few pictures for your mouth to water !!!

Besides wine, beer and cocktails are available. There is ‘happy hour’ on Tuesdays, all day and night!
